Receiver Dryer and Desiccant (Remove and Replace)

Note: The desiccant bag in the receiver dryer is a serviceable item and must be replaced every 2 years, whenever the system is opened to ambient air for an extended time, or when an A/C system leak has been fixed.
Note: The dessicant is located in the RH condenser.

Removal

  1. Position the vehicle on a lift but do not lift it at this time.
  2. Recover refrigerant from the vehicle (refer to procedure).
    Note: While the HVAC machine is recovering the refrigerant, perform the following:
    1. Remove the front underhood apron (refer to procedure).
    2. Partially lift the vehicle.
    3. Remove the screw that secures the fascia to the RH front fender (torque 1.5 Nm).
    4. Remove the bolt that secures the RH portion of the fascia and applique to the fascia carrier (torque 4 Nm).
    5. Remove the RH plastic rivets (x5) that secure the RH aero shield to the chin spoiler.
      Note: Do not remove the last 3 plastic rivets on the LH side of the aero shield.
  3. Clean the area around the plug before removal.
  4. Remove and discard the plug and the desiccant bag (torque 12 Nm).
    Warning: To avoid personal injury, eye protection must be worn when performing this operation.
    Warning: HFO-R1234yf and R134a are considered hazardous liquids and if handled incorrectly can cause serious injury. Suitable protective clothing, consisting of face and eye protection, heat-proof gloves, rubber boots and apron or waterproof overalls must be worn when carrying out operations on the air conditioning system.
    Caution: Remove and discard O-rings.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
Caution: Install a new desiccant bag and a new plug immediately to prevent ingress of dirt and moisture.
Note: Do not reuse the plug.
Note: While the HVAC machine is performing the vacuum and leak check, perform the following:
  1. Reinstall the underhood aprons.
  2. Lower the vehicle.
