Park Brake Caliper - Release - Harness Tool - Through ECU

  1. Chock the front wheels.
  2. Remove the LH C-pillar upper trim (refer to procedure).
  3. Disconnect the front harness from the EPB module inside the vehicle. Connect this harness to the gray connector on the tool harness.
  4. Connect the gray connector on the tool harness to the outboard port on the EPB release tool.
    Note: The center port on the EPB release tool is not used in this method.

Caution: Ensure that the external 12V power supply is turned off before continuing this procedure. The clamps on the tool harness are not insulated.

  1. Connect the positive and negative clamps on the tool harness to the corresponding terminals on the external 12V power supply. Ensure that the positive and negative clamps do not touch each other.
  2. Turn on the 12V power supply.

Warning: After the next step, the vehicle will be free-rolling. Ensure that the wheel chocks are secure.

  1. Hold down the button on the tool harness that is labeled “RELEASE” until the sound of the caliper motor is no longer audible. This usually takes approximately 4 seconds.
    Note: If the calipers do not release, turn off the 12V power supply, then turn it back on. Repeat step 7.
  2. Turn off the 12V power supply.
  3. Remove the positive and negative clamps from the 12V power supply.
  4. Disconnect the tool harness from the EPB module inside the vehicle.
    Caution: Do not reconnect the vehicle’s harness to the EPB module inside the vehicle until the vehicle has arrived at its destination. Reconnecting the harness might cause the parking brake to re-engage.
