Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Install)

FRT No: 18201301

Removal

  1. Recover refrigerant from the vehicle (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the active louver (refer to procedure).
  3. Clamp both coolant hoses on each side of the radiator.
Note: Place suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.
  4. Release the locking rings that secure the coolant hoses to the radiator. Release the hoses from the nipples.
  5. Place a cap over both the radiator inlet and outlet.
Caution: Plug the line connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.
  6. Remove the upper nut (torque 10 Nm) and lower nut (torque 20 Nm) that secure the high/low pressure pipes.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear of the cooling fan.
  8. Release the clip that secures the cooling fan harness to the horizontal plastic support beam.
  9. Remove the bolts (x2) that secure the cooling fan module assembly to the horizontal plastic support beam (torque 12 Nm).
  10. Gently pull the cooling fan module assembly towards the front of the vehicle and then lift straight up to remove it from the vehicle.
  11. Place the cooling fan module assembly on a clean, flat surface.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  • Insert the lower isolators on the bottom of the fan shroud into the lower isolator bracket holes on the front end module to ensure that the cooling fan module is aligned correctly.
  • Install the nuts (x2) that secure the A/C lines before installing the bolts (x2) that secure the cooling fan module assembly to the horizontal plastic support beam.
  • Perform a coolant purge. Add coolant if necessary.
