Shaft - Steering Column - Intermediate Upper (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Remove the HV Battery (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the bolt that secures the upper and lower intermediate shafts (torque 50 Nm).
  3. Remove the driver's footwell cover (refer to procedure).
  4. Working inside the vehicle, remove the bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column (torque 30 Nm).
  5. Working inside the vehicle, release the clips (x4) that secure the steering shaft seal to the firewall.
  6. Raise the vehicle.
  7. Working beneath the vehicle, remove the upper intermediate shaft from the steering column. Remove the shaft from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

When securing the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column, attach the the upper shaft to the lower shaft for additional support, but do not install the bolt at this time.

Connect a laptop with Toolbox 2.0 or later to the vehicle. In Toolbox, select Panels > Steering > Power Steering (EPAS) Control. Click the Start/Play button and follow the onscreen instructions.
Note: After calibrating EPAS, drive the vehicle for a minimum of 5 minutes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
