Gearbox Fluid - Large Rear Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

Warning: If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.

Drain & Refill

  1. Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure).
    Warning: Do not work on an incorrectly supported vehicle.
  2. Remove the mid aero shield (refer to procedure).

Note: The fluid should only be drained when the transmission is warm.
Warning: Be careful when draining the fluid; the fluid can be very hot.

  1. Position a container to collect the fluid.
  2. Clean the area around the filler plug.
  3. Remove the filler plug.
  4. Remove the drain plug and allow the liquid to drain into the container.
    Note: Allow the fluid to drain completely before continuing this procedure.
  5. Clean and install the drain plug (torque 28 Nm).
  6. Fill the drive unit with the correct amount of proper fluid:
    Caution: Do not fill to the bottom of the filler plug opening. Use exactly the specified amount of fluid.
  7. Install the filler plug (torque 28 Nm).
  8. Install the mid aero shield.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
