Steering Rack (Dual Motor) (Remove and Replace)

Warning: If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.

Removal

  1. Remove the front subframe (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the bolts (x2) that secure the steering rack assembly to the subframe (torque 175 Nm).
    Note: Record the positions of any shims.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
Caution: Replace all nylon-insert locknuts.
Caution: Replace all Patchbolt(s).
  1. Ensure that the lower intermediate shaft to pinion markings align correctly.
  2. When reinstalling the bolts that secure the steering rack to the subframe, follow this sequence:
    1. Tighten the LH bolt to 30 Nm.
    2. Tighten the RH bolt to 30 Nm.
    3. Fully torque the LH bolt to 175 Nm.
    4. Fully torque the RH bolt to 175 Nm.
  3. Perform a full firmware update.
  4. Run the "Power Steering (EPAS) Control" procedure in Toolbox.
    Note: After recalibrating the power steering, drive the vehicle for a minimum of 5 minutes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
