Brake Pedal (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Remove the driver's knee air bag (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the steering control column module (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the fasteners that secure the steering column to the mounting bracket (upper nuts 30 Nm, lower bolts 17 Nm).
  4. Remove the AM-FM tuner (refer to procedure).
  5. Remove the brake light switch (refer to procedure).
    Caution: This part is a one-time use component.
  6. Release the clips that secure the instrument panel harness to gain access to the brake pedal.
  7. Remove the spring clip from the clevis pin.
    Note: Note installed position of components before removal.
  8. Depress the brake pedal for clearance and remove the clevis pin from the brake pedal assembly.
  9. Remove the bolts (x2) that secure the brake pedal assembly to the brake pedal reinforcement panel (torque 13 Nm).
  10. Remove and discard the nuts (x4) that secure the brake pedal to the studs on the electromechanical brake booster (torque 23 Nm).
  11. Remove the brake pedal assembly from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Caution: Replace all nylon-insert locknuts.

Verify proper operation of the brake pedal and brake lights.
