Rear Park Brake Caliper Release

Caution: This method requires replacing the caliper. To release a stuck caliper without damaging it, refer to either:

Release

  1. Remove the rear road wheels (refer to procedure).
  2. Disconnect the electric parking brake caliper harness connector.
  3. Remove the screws (x3) that secure the gearbox housing to the caliper.
  4. Carefully remove the gearbox from the caliper.
  5. Using a suitable tool, rotate the caliper piston lead screw clockwise until the brake rotor can spin freely.
    Caution: Do not reassemble the park brake caliper after detachment of the caliper gearbox.
  6. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that secure the caliper to the knuckle (torque 57 Nm).
  7. Move the electric parking brake caliper assembly aside.
  8. Remove the pad retaining pins and collect the anti-rattle spring.
  9. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
  10. Replace the brake pads on the opposite side of the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
Note: Clean the affected areas before installation.
  • When installing, always replace fasteners (1004355-00-B or later).
  • After connecting the electric parking brake caliper harness, wrap the connector seam with electrical tape to prevent dirt ingress.
  • Clean and lubricate the caliper slides, retaining pins, and anti-rattle springs.
  • Lubricate the pad back plates using suitable lubricant prior to installation.
  • Shift into Park to seat the pads on the parking brake.
  • Perform the brake pads burnishing procedure (refer to procedure).
